Digital Literacy

Digital literacy such as blogs has more influence online rather than in a class assignment. It has more influence because it is more entertaining and interesting. Bloggers usually have fewer errors because of auto spell and grammar check. They also have less plagiarism because each one’s own blog is their own work and opinions. Blogs are more elegant because it has many functions and usages. One can choose to make their own templates and backgrounds or make designs for their own blogs. Bloggers can choose to change font size, customize the color, and change up the texts. They also can put up many things such as videos and works of art to try to lure people into reading their blogs. Online might be more persuasive in different ways. They can try to lire you in by using videos, music, or feature celebrities. I believe online blogs are far more creative and entertaining than doing some boring in class assignment. The thing with blogs is that you can get to express one self. It has more influence because us students actually interact and get involved with blogs. The blogs are something we can relate to because it shares what we like and our interests. In my opinion an online blog is far better than an in class assignment because I get more freedom of what to write and I can also add many other things into my blogs whereas an in class assignment half the time is something just written on paper. This is why I believe online blogs are better than assignments.

Literacy TimeLine

Throughout all my life I wasn’t the best reader. I never really liked reading books because they were so long and boring. I probably barely read when I had free time. I only read when I was required too in school. I guess I do not like reading because you just sit there and stare at a book! I always loved to be active during my childhood and teenage years. I am still very active to this day. I do not know why but I always have to make my body move. I do remember some memories from reading.

Probably in kindergarten when I was like 5, I loved to look at pictures in books instead of reading them. One of the reasons probably I couldn’t read a lot back then was because my parents were not fluent in English.

In 1st – 2nd Grade, I loved reading Arthur books. I fell in love with it at first because all the characters were some kind of animal. I also watched the show which encouraged me to read the series. I remember I would sometimes read a kiddie bible with my parents before a slept. I would ask them who was this and who was that in the bible.

In 3rd Grade, I remember picking up a book called Captain Underpants. The reason I loved it was the main character was a superhero in his underwear. I would get so many laughs out of it. It was sort of a comic kind of book. I also read Calvin and Hobbes. I just liked funny books back then and this book had a tiger as a main character.

In 4th-5th Grade, I guess my reading developed better. I started reading harder books. I read A Serious of Unfortunate Events and Harry Potter. I never got to finish both serious because I became too lazy.

In 6th-8th Grade, I sort of stopped reading books but picked onto magazines. My favorite magazine to rent at the school library was Kids Sports Illustrated and Sports Illustrated. I loved reading about sports and athletes. I would tell myself one day I will become a NFL or NBA player. Reading these magazines made me really active. I would be outside 4-5 hours a day. I would be playing baseball, basketball, swimming, soccer, and many more. I would play with my cousins or friends. If they were all busy, I would just practice by myself.
My high school years…

I probably never read during high school unless it was required in class. I was so busy with academics and other stuff I became less active. My favorite book in English Cp was Lord of the Flies. It was an adventurous kind of book with the boys being stuck on the island and being separated into two teams. I like these kinds of book because you do not know what was going to happen next. I realized by Senior Years, I hate to write essays or anything on topics I did not get to pick. I found that to be dumb and boring. I love to write about anything when I get to choose the topic or subject.

Today, I still do not read many books, but I do read a lot of magazines. Either online magazines or magazines itself I just love magazines. This past summer, I fell in love with cars. I started reading Motortrend. I started reading working out and body building magazines. I love learning new workouts and pushing my body too its limits. I also read many stuff on proteins and nutrition because I believe staying healthy is the way of life! I also love to read cook books and baking books. I love to eat and I believe eating should be a sport. All of these have shaped into in doing many hobbies in life.

Sherman Alexi Literacy Summary

Sherman Alexi was an Indian living in the Spokane Indian Reservation. Literacy was important to him because he thought himself how to read at an early age. Indians were sought out to fail in the non-Indian world. He stated, “I refused to fail. I was smart. I was arrogant. I was lucky.”  He later became a poet, writer, and novelist.

I guess it is partially essential for me. I always refuse to fail in any way, shape, or form. I always want to succeed, so I never give up on anything that I want to achieve.  I hate when people tell me, “Joe you will not be able to do this or do that.” It gives me intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. These motivations help me overcome my obstacles in proving people wrong.

WRT 150

I believe writing and communication is important in many ways. Writing and communication can help in any profession. I am thinking about going to Pre-Med to maybe become a pediatrician. The communication skills can help me interact with children and their parents. The writing skills may help me to write a book or documents in the pediatrician field. There are many reasons why I think writing and communication are important.  I think the most important is that you get to come up with your own ideas and one gets freedom of speech. The ideas that a person comes up with differs with other people. Communication skills can improve my future by helping me speak more proper and sophisticated. This skill can help me enunciate my words better.  Taking simple notes is just one step to becoming a better writer. Writing helps free one’s mind by just expressing it on a piece of paper. I firmly think that writing with no guidelines is the best way to go because it never ends.
