Sherman Alexi was an Indian living in the Spokane
Indian Reservation. Literacy was important to him because he thought himself
how to read at an early age. Indians were sought out to fail in the non-Indian
world. He stated, “I refused to fail. I was smart. I was arrogant. I was
lucky.” He later became a poet, writer,
and novelist.
I guess it is partially essential for me. I always
refuse to fail in any way, shape, or form. I always want to succeed, so I never
give up on anything that I want to achieve.
I hate when people tell me, “Joe you will not be able to do this or do
that.” It gives me intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. These motivations help
me overcome my obstacles in proving people wrong.
